Project 50, 5 of 50. Fifty faces, with my 50mm lens, in 50 days.
So, there are these protesters that have been picketing and/or taking videos of people going in and out of places of business all over Southern California for years. The same group of 3 men come out first, hand out flyers, set up video to try to intimate anyone going into the business they are not happy with. Then 3 more show up with a large banner that says “Labor Dispute, Shame on XXX”. The XXX is the company they are currently not happy with. Those three hang out with their banner from about 9am to 1:30pm or so, for maybe 3 months, then they move on to another location and another company. The same three people for years. Their last protest was based on a company that had rented space in a strip mall in Arizona. When that strip mall was built one of the subcontractors had used another subcontractor for the dry-walling. One of those drywallers was not a union member. So, they protested a branch office of a company in CA that had nothing to do with the building of the mall, and could not control it if they did.
Anyway, they showed up outside the office next to ours last week. I hadn’t seen them in our area for about a year. This is now the 3rd company they have protested locally in the 3 years I have worked at this building. It is always fun to see them show up. They have to hate the heat and their “job”.
This is one of the guys holding up the banner. It takes 2 to 3 people to keep it balanced. He did not care if I took his picture, but the others did not want to unless I told them who I worked for and gave them my office phone number and address. I assume they wanted that info so they can protest my place of business as well. I don’t understand their protest, but I at least tried to respect their wishes and did not photograph the others.
