Picture 2 of Samantha. I have to admit that I’m not very happy technically with this picture, but I like her expression. I have a feeling 20 years from now I won’t care too much about the technical aspects of this picture, but I bet I will enjoy looking at it. To me that is the big reason why I love portraits. Technical aspects can make a good picture great, but a good picture is based on the person taking the photo and the person in the photo. Timing can be more important that technique, and the connection between the photographer and the subject can make all the difference. Don’t misunderstand me, technique, vision, exposure, processing, and the like need to be there, but if you don’t start with a great connection and timing none of the other aspects matter.
Okay, back to Sammy. Sammy used to watch nothing but Disney. She has now moved on to shows that I’m in much more agreement with and that I can understand. While taking this photo she is watching “Malcolm in the Middle” – a great show. Much better then some of the silliness that Disney puts out. The photo was taken at 6400 ISO. There was one small light on way across the room, and the light of the TV. Again, technically not perfect, but I like her expression.
