2010.1.18 (Come Sail Away)

From the 3rd grade until early high school when my family needed to move across the country, my best friend was Paul. It thought he and his brothers were some of the funniest people I ever met. But, this picture brings back one specific memory. In the mid 70’s my father had a fantastic new gadget – small cassette tape recorder that you carry with you and fit in your hand. It looked like a early version of a sony walkman, but it was not stereo, mono recording only. He used it for dictation. I stole it for a while and had it in my bedroom where I was taping all kinds of things. This is where Paul comes into the story.

Paul laid on my bed, picked up the tape recorder, held it in the air above his head and began to sing. He sang “Come Sail Away” by Styx. He did not sing just part of the song . . nooooooo . . . he sang the entire song. I was laughing hysterically by time he was done. The funniest part was I don’t think he noticed my on the floor laughing at all. He sang the song like he was totally alone, and nothing was going to stop him. I wish I still had the tape. Childhood memories, always fun.

I’ve never heard this song since with out remembering Paul, laying there singing this song.

Jon - Thanks Valerie. Yes it is a wall, sort of. It is the top of a store front, it was late morning, I'm looking up a bit and across the street. Just below the white part are windows with displays in them. I pointing the camera there because I like the clouds, but ended up liking the look of the shadow on the wall, really because it was hard to tell what angle was going where.ReplyCancel
