Nielsen’s Family Portrait at the Beach

I’m so far behind on blogging my latest sessions that it may take a while to catch up, but I’m going to try.

First up is the Nielsen’s. If you follow me on Facebook (if you don’t already “like” me now) you may have seen these but I think with a family this beautiful it is worth blogging about formally. This is a family that we’ve known for a while and they are wonderful. They have 6 beautiful girls who are some of the nicest girls I’ve ever met. They are all so happy all the time.

I also want to share the “Long Portrait” I took of them.  I hadn’t done one of these in a while but I still really like them.  I think of them not as a video but as a portrait where you get a chance to see more of their true personalities, mannerisms, and subtle interactions.  Of course you can also think of it like a Harry Potter moving picture type thing if you want.

I’ve recently found out that all of their cousins in related families are in “gender” groups like theirs as well. What I mean is that their cousins are also in big families with only boys and/or girls in each family. What are the chances of that?

Anyway, my wife and I took them to one of our favorite beach spots just south of Ventura. I’m not going to tell you where it is because one of the reasons I like it is that it is never crowded. If I share the spot I could ruin that. So, if you want to know where it is you are just going to have to hire me for some beach portraits.

We spent some time on the dunes, then went down to the water. The wind was coming off the water pretty hard so at times it was hard to keep their hair and dresses under control but it was fun. One of my favorite shots below was taken almost by accident. I had them all hold hands but because of the wind they faced the water.  I had to turn them around but before I did, I took a quick shot.  The sun was perfect, there are two seagulls flying by, it was great. The moral of this story is always be ready to take the picture. I always find the best images happen quickly and usually by accident.

Thank you Nielsen’s for a wonderful time and for being so beautiful!
