This is another of my niece's - Olivia. It's funny, I have 2 cousins in total. My kids have hundreds of cousins. How quick things change in one generation.

 Leah in October

A week or so ago I had the opportunity to go up to see extended family in the Sacramento area. We had a bit of a picnic where I was able to talk Leah into taking some pictures. Leah is not always the easiest to get pictures of. When she decides to let me though she can be a hoot. I love fall portraits by the way.

Salton Sea

This may be the most disgusting and interesting beach I've ever been too. In all my years in California, I had not gone out to the Salton Sea. I had to spend some time for the day job in the Palm Springs area this week so I took a trip out there.

It's a former vacation spot for the rich and fancy in the 50's, but is now a very dead place. The water flows changed when the San Diego and LA areas needed more water and the water became all salty . . . or something like that. Google it for the real answer.

What was interesting to me is what looks like pretty white coral is all just dead fish bones. I did not stay long at the water's edge because the fly's were crazy. They were not biting, but still crazy. The whole area is squishy and kid of gross. It's like a few feet deep pile of bones all the way around the lake.

Sunrise at Black Point Beach

This is a 4 exposure HDR, and a long exposure, taken at one of my favorite places on earth, Black Point Beach in The Sea Ranch, CA. I took this one over a year ago, but I never processed it. When I'm there I take hundreds and hundreds of photos and then I love working on them for years to come. It is my way of continuing my vacation over a very extended period of time. After a stressful week I can pull up older images from my favorite places and work or rework them.

I also am a bit of a image hoarder. Hard drives are so cheap, I keep pretty close to everything I shoot. I fear that as soon as I delete an image I will want some part of it for a composite or texture or something else. Maybe I need therapy.

This is one from a few months ago from Bowling Ball Beach. I played around in Silver Efex 2 to convert this to B&W. I feel more comfortable for that software now. I think I like it.

Sorry, I've not posted nearly as much as I want to or that I need to. I'm trying to get back into the rhythm of daily shooting again, but recently it has been tough. Anyway, here is a very patient and trusting seagull. It let me get pretty close and walk around without taking off. Eventually it decided he did not like me, but for a few moments he let me do what ever I wanted to.

 Sophia

Sophia is celebrating her 2nd birthday today. My wife traveled to her sister's house in Utah to help celebrate - see, Sophia is her sisters kid. I'm home with our teenagers for the weekend while she parties with a 2 year old. Happy birthday Sophia. I'd type more tonight, but to tell you the truth, I have something in my eye that has been driving me nuts for hours. If there is something wrong with this picture of is I missed something it is because of the this thing that feels like a 2x4 in my eye.

 Clara

A little while ago I took the portraits of Clara's family. We went to a great beach location and the pictures really came out well. (I'm still working on them but they are coming soon). Clara took a bit of a dance on the beach while we were there. I get to see Clara every Sunday in the Sunday School class I teach. She is a great young lady and her family is awesome. You should be able to see her happiness in the image. Dance on . . .
