Hi, I'm Jon. Welcome to my photography and other current obsessions journal.
In both my dreams and in reality, I’ve been a photographer or creator since my earliest memories. As a young child I watched a TV character develop prints in a dark room and I was hooked. I immediately stole my mother’s baking pans, filled them with water and put pieces of paper in them pretending to make prints. I got my hands on a kodak 110 instamatic camera that I would take on field trips in elementary school documenting my friends and our doings.
My first “real” camera was a Nikon FG which was a gift I received in High School. In college I was on full scholarship for computer science and math, but I skipped many of my classes to hang out in dark rooms around campus. I also moved up to my first “professional camera” the Nikon F3-HP in college. That may still be my favorite camera. I learned and still love doing everything manual and by hand. In the end I gave up my scholarship and spent too many years in school (according to my wife) studying art and photography.
I opened my own studio and started to pursue fame and fortune as a photographer. To be honest I was just doing okay and trying to grow the business. I really was not wired for that business side of an "artistic" endeavor. I also needed a more stable income. Fast forward decades later, and I have a wonderful day job that allows me to be creative, gives me more income that I deserve (please don't tell my company that) and has allowed me to keep creating.
tl:dr - Here you will find my thoughts, photos, videos, person obsessions, personal projects, maybe some tutorials on things I've learned. Who knows what else? You have ideas? Email me with them. I do some occasional work for hire, but to be honest my time is tight so not as many as I used to. I’d love to hear your ideas or requests.
